Hobson Leavy would like to congratulate Nigel Philpott on his appointment to Chief Executive for Nelson City Council (NCC).
After an extensive career in senior leadership and transformational roles with both the UK and NZ Armed Forces, Nigel moved into the public service. He spent a period leading the Transitional Housing Task Force alongside former politician, Paula Bennett. Moving next to Ministry of Education, Nigel drove the visionary National Programme for Workforce Strategy, for those employed in NZ’s education sector.
For the last three years, Nigel has led NZ’s primary sector training body, Primary ITO, as Chief Executive. Primary ITO offers on-the-job training to over 20,000 learners across the horticulture, agriculture and primary processing sectors. Nigel has led a significant turnaround of the company, driving staff engagement, profitability and diversifying the curriculum to attract a wider cohort of students.
After travelling to New Zealand with the Royal Navy back in the 1990s, Nigel fell in love with the Nelson / Tasman region and knew it would one day be home.
Nigel commences with NCC on 3rd April and will work closely with Mayor Nick Smith, Council and his talented team to drive prosperity across the region for his five-year term.
Please join us in congratulating Nigel Philpott!
