A state-owned corporate entity, Tonga Power Ltd is Tonga’s sole electricity provider. It generates, distributes and sells electricity to over 25,000 customers and is committed to generating clean and sustainable electricity. With revenues of approx. $77m, an asset base of circa. $152m, it employs around 300 staff. A critical employer in the Kingdom, it plays a significant role in contributing to the community and to the local economy. A pivotal time in its evolution, the most significant capital investment the company has seen in its history has now been finalised with further investment in progress.
Based at Head Office in Nuku’alofa and reporting to the Board, the CEO will be responsible for the strategic and operational management of the company, with its focus on sustainable growth and the expansion of renewable energy initiatives. The appointee will champion the adoption of these new technologies and provide oversight of capital investment projects, ensuring they are delivered effectively, on time, and within budget. Strengthening Tonga Power’s generation and distribution delivery and integrating renewable solutions will be critical to ensuring a sustainable and successful future for the company.
Tertiary qualified, the appointee will have extensive experience at a senior executive level in the energy sector, either generation or distribution, but ideally with experience in renewable energy development. What is important is that they have the skills and experience required to make a clear impact and are able to “hit the ground running.” Experience leading large scale and complex capital projects would be highly beneficial, as will the ability to develop strategy to support diversification and business growth objectives. Sound financial management skills and commercial acumen will be a given and clearly, the new CEO will be an exceptional leader of people and skilled relationship builder.
