With membership of around 6,000 GPs, rural hospital doctors and registrars, The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners is NZ’s largest medical college. Advocating for equity, access, and sustainable healthcare, the College believes that every citizen of Aotearoa New Zealand should have access to their own GP. The College also provides post-graduate training for those specialising in general practice and/or rural hospital medicine, sets and assesses quality standards, and administers ongoing professional development programmes.
The CEO is responsible for leading the organisation of 65+ employees to achieve its mission and objectives to improve health outcomes and reduce health inequities. Improving Māori health outcomes through delivering the Māori health strategy will be key to the College’s success. Growing GP capability, advocating for the sector with key stakeholders, and ensuring that the College continues to add value to its members is key.
We are seeking an inspirational, contemporary leader with a passion for the sector and its importance to the health system. Proven as a senior executive and a strategic and commercial thinker, the CEO will be adept at setting clear direction, empowering staff to deliver, and building a high-performance team culture. Effective stakeholder engagement will also prove critical, and the appointee will be skilled at building trust and confidence and bring a strong focus on delivering value for members. Experience in the health or education sectors or having led a membership organisation is likely to be beneficial.
This is a Wellington-based role that requires some domestic and international travel.
