The organisation:
The Bioeconomy Science Institute (BSI) is one of New Zealand’s newest Public Research Organisations, formed through the merger of Crown Research Institutes (CRIs) AgResearch, Plant & Food Research, Manaaki Whenua – Landcare Research, and Scion. The BSI exists to power New Zealand’s transition to a circular, resilient, and prosperous bioeconomy. Through world-leading science, the BSI drives innovation across agriculture, horticulture, forestry, aquaculture, biotechnology, and manufacturing.
The CFOO role:
The Chief Financial & Operating Officer (CFOO) is central to shaping long-term priorities, optimising resources, and embedding a culture of continuous improvement. As a core member of the Senior Leadership Team, the CFOO supports the CEO and Board with strategic leadership in financial planning, organisational performance, infrastructure operations, and risk governance. Key responsibilities include ensuring robust and well-governed treasury functions and financial systems, championing operational excellence, meeting all legal and shareholder obligations, and ensuring BSI’s infrastructure and assets are world-class and cost-effective.
This is a rare and meaningful opportunity to help lead one of the world’s largest publicly owned primary sector and environmental science institutions, positioning Aotearoa New Zealand at the forefront of bioeconomy innovation and contributing to a prosperous, sustainable future.
