Southern Cross – Chief Medical Officer

-
Opportunities

We are delighted to be partnering with Southern Cross Healthcare to appoint their new Chief Medical Officer.

Southern Cross Healthcare is New Zealand’s largest private hospital network, recognised for delivering safe, high-quality care and for its strong, purpose driven commitment to improving health outcomes. With a nationwide network of hospitals, specialist centres and more than 3,000 dedicated staff, Southern Cross supports over 118,000 patients each year through a highly skilled clinical workforce and strong partnerships with surgeons, anaesthetists and other medical specialists.

Part of the Executive Leadership Team, the Chief Medical Officer will provide strategic clinical leadership across Southern Cross’ national network and shape the organisation’s clinical strategy. This role acts as the organisation’s senior clinical voice, strengthening governance, engaging closely with specialists, and guiding the adoption of innovation and best practice across the national network. It offers the opportunity to influence the future of private healthcare in New Zealand while upholding Southern Cross’ commitment to excellence in patient care.

The ideal candidate will be a senior surgeon or anaesthetist with a respected professional profile, significant leadership experience and a strong understanding of clinical governance in complex healthcare environments. They will bring exceptional communication skills, sound clinical judgement and the ability to influence effectively at executive and system levels.

This is a rare opportunity to contribute at scale to the advancement of healthcare in Aotearoa, within a trusted organisation with genuine purpose, national influence and a strong appetite for innovation.

This is a part‑time role offering flexibility in how the CMO structures their week, while still requiring a strong and visible presence across the organisation. Auckland is preferred but not essential, and the position includes regular national travel across the network.
