Hobson Leavy is delighted to be partnering with the University of Waikato (UoW) to appoint the Director of Fundraising.
Following the Government’s approval this June to establish a new medical school at UoW, the New Zealand Graduate School of Medicine (NZGSM) is set to welcome its first cohort of students in 2028. This is a significant investment, working to address the overwhelming and growing shortage of medical graduates in New Zealand – which is particularly impacting Aotearoa’s rural and regional communities.
UoW’s graduate-entry, four-year programme is the first of its kind in New Zealand providing a flexible pathway into medicine; allowing students to transition into the field off the back of a previous bachelor’s qualification.
To bring NZGSM to life, UoW is seeking to instate the dedicated position – Director of Fundraising – committed to the opening of NZGSM in 2028. This role will lead the efforts to secure critical funding and philanthropic investment to establish the NZGSM facility and four-year programme. The Director will shape and execute a contemporary fundraising strategy, with a focus on forging high-trust, long-term relationships to enable impact.
We are seeking an exceptional relationship-builder with experience leading successful and complex fundraising initiatives of scale. They will bring strong networks and interpersonal skills – able to convey an engaging story and build long-term trusting partnerships with a range of stakeholders. Collaborative and dynamic, the Director of Fundraising will lead with the utmost integrity, bringing a highly strategic approach.
