This article by McKinsey & Co looks at the ways COVID-19 has changed how we approach our work. Collaboration, agile teams, and the growing importance of public-private collaboration are key elements emerging globally, from this period of crisis. It would seem there is an array of revolutionary ideas that now force us to rethink our previous ways of ‘getting things done’ in the workplace.

 

Along with identifying the ‘ingredients’ of a new normal, this article focuses on the increasingly important issues of strong governance and leadership for successful businesses. Economist, Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen, makes the interesting comment; “The invisible hand of the market needs to be balanced by the visible hand of good governance”. In this period of tumult and uncertainty, “close and constant communication” is critical between the Board and the CEO, for a business to grow sustainability. Therefore, ensuring businesses are equipped with inspiring and capable leaders is extremely critical for the ‘new normal’ that lies ahead.
