HOBSON LEAVY is delighted to announce the appointment of Beckie McCleland as Chief Risk Officer at Suncorp New Zealand
Beckie is a seasoned risk leader with experience across the financial services sector, with senior roles in Australia, the UK, and New Zealand. Currently with iCare in New South Wales, Beckie’s background also includes senior leadership roles at Westpac, Partners Life, KPMG, and Milford.
She has operated extensively across Line 1 and Line 2 risk, with deep expertise in governance, enterprise and operational risk, regulatory change, and operational resilience. Highly regarded for her practical, business‑aligned approach to risk, Beckie has a strong track record of building effective and scalable frameworks in complex, regulated environments. She is known for working constructively with Boards and executive leadership teams to align risk management with strategy. A respected and values‑led leader, Beckie consistently builds high‑performing teams and strong cross‑functional relationships, delivering outcomes that deliver for customers and the organisation.
Suncorp New Zealand CEO Jimmy Higgins says with the shift to a more automated AI industry and focus on uplifting New Zealand’s overall risk culture, it was important to find someone with a good depth of experience in this space.
“Beckie’s credentials reflect the role we need to play in the industry moving forward and we are lucky she was interested in returning to New Zealand,” he says.
Beckie will relocate from Australia and start with Suncorp New Zealand in late May.
